I am in love with putting cinnamon on any and everything, even back and high school I would make muffins or brownies for my friends and add cinnamon! They hated me for it but, hey, I was basically prolonging their lives… so you’re welcome if you are reading this!

Why cinnamon you may ask?

1. Packed with Antioxidants

Antioxidants neutralize and remove free radicals from the bloodstream. While there are various types of antioxidants, in general, antioxidants can help maintain a healthy immune system. It has also been attributed to aid with heart, memory, and eye problems.

2. Can act as an Anti-Inflammatory agent

“Can reduce both systematic and specific inflammation, ” (Organic Authority). After doing much research, it has been found that cinnamon can help specific pain as in arthritis, headaches and other pain (knee, back, etc.). As well as, systematic inflammation that could lead to long-term chronic illnesses.

3. Possess Anti-fungal, Anti-bacterial, and Anti-viral properties

Cinnamon has been cited to help with lung problems such as congestion or common illnesses like a cold. The spice can also help combat viruses mostly when using a cinnamon extract. Cinnamon is a great way to prevent, control or reduce various illnesses and there is much research to support this, click here to learn more!

4. Can lower blood sugar levels – possibly curbs your sugar cravings as a result

This is one of the key factors to staying fit and even possibly losing weight! Cinnamon can reduce the amount of glucose that will enter the bloodstream. It interferes the digestive enzymes and slows the breakdown of carbohydrates. Shane Ellison, a medicinal chemist , “works directly on the muscle cells to force them to remove sugar from the bloodstream, where it is converted to energy.” This is great for those who suffer from Type 2 diabetes as cinnamon can repair the receptors and make the body responsive to insulin again.

Due to cinnamon’s power to control the body’s blood glucose levels, it can reduce your craving for sugar. Sugar is one of the top ingredients that is related to weight gain. Cinnamon has a naturally sweet taste, combine that with it’s control over glucose levels it can curb your cravings and prevent you from overconsumption of sweets. This is how I love to stay more fit! Adding a little cinnamon to hot tea is also great way to stay fuller, longer (more information below).

Now you can probably tell why I call cinnamon my little secret! It can help your body in so many ways and makes food and drinks taste delicious! Also it is 0 calories!!

How to incorporate cinnamon into your diet:

1. Cinnamon + Tea

I love having cinnamon and tea, more specifically, hot tea. Hot tea can be key to helping you lose weight and/or stay fit! Warm/hot drinks makes you stomach feel fuller, and drinking various herbal teas can improve your health! Green tea for example, has been known to help speed up your metabolism.

2. Cinnamon + Coffee

Cinnamon and coffee are like a match made in heaven! I mean real cinnamon or cinnamon extract, not that artificial cinnamon syrup (I do like my occasional cinnamon almond milk macchiato). However, be weary of the amount of caffeine you intake. My diet is pretty strict as far as caffeine; I do not allow myself caffeine unless in chocolate, coffee or tea (if I have the option I always choose decaf coffee/tea). *sidenote* I do not drink soda even if it is decaffeinated*

3. Cinnamon + Yogurt

4. Cinnamon + Breakfast

It is great on oatmeal of course and cinnamon makes a great additive to a healthy breakfast cereal as well!

5. Cinnamon + Fruits

One of my favorite things is to take a banana add a sprinkle of raw cane sugar or honey and ALOT of cinnamon. Wrap it in foil and leave it in a 350-400 degree oven for about 10 minutes, then enjoy! It is the most delicious thing in this world, put that on top a scoop of frozen yogurt and you have an amazing dessert!

You can also just add this to other fruits like apples (or make cinnamon apples).

I hope you can truly benefit from this blog post and leave me some feedback as to whether it helped you!
